Default Do we trust targa re-lens kits?

I need a roof. Been shopping around.

Surprisingly, there are several re-lens services from about 300/400 on up.

There's also a re-lens kit?

Anyone got a (horror?) story to share?

No horror story, but I do have an opinion. i got my new roof from Melrose and it is a top quality piece. Something to think about, if you go the cheap route and the top separates and flies back hitting another car, you would be in big trouble. Especially if it caused injuries or a fatality. Yes,
Melrose is pricey but a lot cheaper than any lawsuit.

Well, that's a good point too. I don't want to spend any more than I have to, of course. But I wouldn't want anyone to get hurt.

There's SUCH A HUGE RANGE in these things.. I'm seeing 11/1200 from the corvette places, all the way down to 350?

Then there's kits..

I dunno what to do? I mean, I would assume the big safety issue is the adhesive.

The other option it to find a NOS one, I did this past winter and got a decent deal from someone in the parts for sale section.

Chunk knocked out of it and cracked.

I have no idea how it happened. It was like that when I bought it.

(Maybe they forgot to screw it down to the car once?)

I used a vendor on ebay selling blems for 350. I only thing I can see is it doesn't quite match the body line at the halo perfectly, but very close. You have to be looking for it to see it. I would buy one again. They glued the new lens my frame.

Default Time for the top to Pop

Hello all,
I bought a rebuilt unit from the first name on the list at Carlisle several years ago. It was not that expensive and looked beautiful and since my old unit had some marks of wear and tear, it was time.

Fast forward about 4 years later and one day I was getting something from inside the car. When I closed the door the roof panel jumped up and let out the pressure. I was surprised to find that it had completely unglued itself.

I was not very impressed to say the least.

I had it re-glued (Proper Window Urethane by a professional window man) this summer. After this experience I am not so sure that I trust my top's original design any more.

Has anybody ever put hardware on the top to secure it from doing this at 70 mph?

The best way (I have come up with) would be to drill thru the acrylic and into the top's frame. After drilling thru I would tap the aluminum frame and heli-coil the hole for strength. Either way you compromised the roof panel but reduced your liability.

Let me hear some ideas, I am all ears...

Have a great day!

Do what I did, bite the bullet and get a Melrose top and put the top worries behind you. I was lucky enough to be able to go right to their business and get it, they put it on for me and I have had NO issues with it.
