Default 1984 VATS question

Sorry to beat a dead horse, but I tried to search and search and couldnt get an official answer. I was looking to convert my ignition to switches and a push start; my worries are VATS and steering wheel lock. My key does not have a resistor in it, does that mean my car does not have VATS?

Thanks in advance!

No VATS in '84.

For column lock, you can either disable/remove it, or you need an electronic column like like was implemented on the C5^ 'Vette

That's a pretty complex mod for an '84, and your question tells me that you don't have an FSM (Factory Service/Shop Manual). That's an absolute necessity for DIY maintaining an '84! And it's even more important for modifications!!

I did pick up the Haynes Manual; however, I am working silly hours this week, havent even got it out of the plastic. If it was doable I was going to order the stuff so at least when I get a day off I will be ready to go and make it a one day project. (Hopefully).
Part of the reason is... the fan is on a toggle switch, I forget to turn it on and dont want to damage the motor. If I run a switch panel I can run down the line and not have to worry.
Wiring is one of the only things I'm decent at I just wanted to be sure it wouldnt cause any anti-theft problems.

That manual is perfect for the guy who hasn't learned how to do his own oil change yet, but other than that, it's a waste of time. If you already do your own oil change, take the book back and spend a few more bucks for a REAL book! EBay is a popular source, or Helm, Inc. Detroit MI.

Again, havent checked the manual... but is the steering lock part of the ignition cylinder? So if i remove the cylinder, no longer an issue?

No, that won't do it. The cylinder actuates a rod that slides up and down the column. Part of that assy engages a "gear" wheel just under the steering wheel, thereby locking the column. You could remove the cylinder and manipulate the assy so it's never locked....
