Default Transmission Crack

I had to drop my transmission and when I reinstalled it I cracked the area around the bolt on the right hand side above the pilot hole. Somehow it must have got in a bind and cracked. Anyway my question is now is this transmission case done? Everything is good and it is a great transmission. I have considered installing with the missing bolt. Any thoughts? By the way everything will bolt up perfectly. It would just be a crack around that bolt above the pilot hole.

Yes, easier than one might guess to learn the difference between the bolts' pulling things together without/with binding.

At worst the case piece needs changing, but a good welder should be able to fix it; definitely do NOT just 'miss' a bolt. Look at the size of that bolt. It obviously carries load and is not optional.
If you do, expect more breakage, probably vibrations and more expensive repairs.

Now I just need to find a good welder that can weld aluminum. I really dont want to replace the case.

Find a "bare block" to bolt the transmission to for the repair of the housing/case. You should I believe have no issues.

Yeah a good junkyard should have that and maybe a good welder.

The only way you put it together and run with 5 bolts is if you are going to sell the car and have a temporary address. Seriously, what WVZR-1 said is correct. Make sure it's bolted onto a block before welding.
