95' One loud click when starting
New to forum, so bare with me.
I have a 1995 base coupe automatic. Sometimes when I start it there's a loud click sound as soon as it starts to turn over. It always starts and sounds fine after running. Any ideas?

Sounds kinda like the starter to me. When they activate (turn key to start) a gear inside slides out towards the flywheel to turn the car over. But that's only if its more of a clunk or metallic sound. If its more of an electrical click then I don't know. I would have someone turn the car over while you search for the source of noise.

Thanks Mike
It doesn't sound like an electrical click. I'll have my wife start it and I'll listen by the starter. I just bought the car off a lady that was the original owner. It only has 40k on it and hasn't been driven much if at all since 2003.

Yep no problem. I would pick up a stethoscope from your local parts stores. They help aid in isolating the noise and remove other noise you might hear. If its not the starter I would then check trans fluids and the TV cable (I think). I haven't owned a auto before so I'm not sure what cable it is that tells the trans if your in park or not.

Mmm I mean any thing is possible but I don't think low voltage to starter would cause it to make a clunk. The stethoscope is like 20$ and can help out. Just probe around to find where the noise is loudest! If its not the starter just let me know!
