Default Lost the CAP for the SOLAR TEMPERATURE SENSOR

It fell down the ventilation system on the 92 LT1. It's located midway on top of the dash right behind the vents. Will it operate fine without the plastic cap? I assume maybe a little cleaning of the lens with a Q-tip once in a great while will be fine. Stopped in a Chev dealership for a set of extra keys and asked about the sensor. Of course GM doesn't carry them anymore.

Is it hard to remove the ventilation ductwork to fish out the lost cap?

Found a used one on ebay: -> http://www.ebay.com/itm/90-91-92-93-....c100011.m1850

The defroster grill just snaps out. the sensor comes with it. if it fell where you can get it through there you might be OK. If the defrost wasn't selected it should stay in that duct area.

If it has fallen down where it can jam an air control door you may have to take at least some of the dash apart.

Or if your lucky it will fall through to the floor heat and roll out.
