A/C compressor clutch
OK what sorts of statistics do we have on these things going belly up? I think this may be the root of my misfire problem (I hope) anyway the clutch is sorta on/off real fast (about 2-4 times a sec.) I can't hear the clutch coil popping on/off so I think it is staying energized. The clutch pack/ smelled like crap last night & finally popped the belt just as I entered my development. Anyway to see if it's just the A/C clutch or the compressor that's failing.

If the unit cycles that frequently, then you need to determine if you are low on refrigerant, the low pressure switch on the suction line near the fire wall coil entrance may be faulty or the connection is loose/corroded. when it gets low on ref., the compressor will still try to pull a suction and usually it will begin to suck up the oil from the compressor and after some time of operation at low refrigerant, your oil (less than 6 oz. total) is not in the compressor to lubricate. then you start putting load on the bearings and the clutch will begin to slip..belt turns etc. check it out and post results

I'm currently on my 3rd AC clutch. FOrunately they're easy to replace. when mine went you could turn on the AC and see that the clutch wasn't holding, ie the center was not turning as fast as the rim. replaced it and everything was fine. BTW, when replacing make sure there is room for the clutch to engane and disengage.
From what you've said it sounds like you may have another problem that is damaging the clutch.
