Default MC Reservoir

I'm sure someone had to ask this before, but I can't find what I need.

I'm replacing the brake master cylinder in my '89. This is my daily driver so I don't have the luxury of waiting for parts to be shipped. And unfortunately, there isn't a MC available in this town with new reservoirs on it, so I have to transfer the old ones to the replacement MC.

I was able to remove the reservoirs, but reinstalling them is another story! I'm apparently not strong enough to just force them back over the grommet. Any suggestions?

i feel your pain.

i used plenty of silicone / dielectric grease and then i used a small board on top of the reservoir and a large C clamp to press the reservoirs into the mc. if/when you destroy a rubber grommet i bought my replacements at zip.

good luck, it is a tough job.

How many grommets did you destroy?

I'm also worried about cracking the reservoir.

Though I did Few time 25 years ago if I remember right all it took was some Lube one edge in a rock and a little twist.

Thanks so much for the link.

It's definitely taking more than "a rock and a little twist." My hands, arms and whole upper body are tired from all the pressure I've been applying to this thing! I appreciate every bit of help I can get though, so thank you!

yeau you will bend the mc to booster bolts.

i wasted two grommets before i got smart and pressed them in with a large 10$ c clamp and silicon grease with a piece of square 1x4 big enough go over the one reservoir being pressed. this is the same c clamp used to push brake pistons in using old pads
