Hello my name is David. I have an 84 early model and have encountered nothing but frustration in finding an alternator that will fit. I have tried a few different ones but they have all been too tall for the stock bracket. Does anybody know what one will fit properly?
Welcome to the Forum, David!
Good luck with your alternator fix.
Vette DD has given you great insight. Lots of C4 enthusiasts who can offer great information.

Is there any label or identifier on the one that's on the car presently If it's original I'd expect likely an 1105513 (97A), a GM service 1101306 (108A) maybe. A generic 17si-20211 reman should replace either of those UNLESS maybe a previous owner has done something very different.
If using any/all of those as a reference fails, post a snapshot of yours for identification. Is yours on the car or off of the car presently?

- if the alternator is off the car, posting a pic of front mount ear where the part number, amp rating, build date are stamped, is useful information. also from the AC Delco site, it list two service replacements - #334-2187 or 334-2211 (both remanufactured). http://parts-catalog.acdelco.com/cat...log_search.php. both are available through rock auto and are in the $75 range (less core charge). http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/c...generator,2412
Take your old unit to a starter/alternator rebuild shop and have the original rebuilt. Find a rebuilder in the yellow pages or go to a garage that services trucks, school buses etc and ask them who they use. Should cost about $100.
