Rebuilding a 1987 Coupe that was my father's and i dearly love. It's engine was rebuilt when I was young. I was under the impression they came with 4 bolts securing the center 3 main caps. The block I just disassembled has 2 bolts securing all 5 main caps. There is a 638 on the side of the block. Is this the block that came with the car or did the mechanic who rebuilt it put in a block he had laying around? Thank you and i appreciate your time that it takes to respond.
Only 2 bolts! Wasn't this the sportiest car General Motors made? I think I remember $36,000 dollars in 1987. How'd they keep it so light? Any where else they didn't put enough bolts? Frame maybe?

2 bolts is all that's needed. 2 bolt blocks can handle over 450hp and the L98 is around 245hp , so why have a 4 bolt block..A friend of mine has an 86 with a 2 bolt block, bored and stroked to a 383 that turns high 11s in the quarter mile.. He's never had a problem...WW
