4L80E Converter
Guys,
Looking for some help picking out a converter for an 80E. Stall speed around 3200. Engine specs are
383
6" Rod
11:1
Dart Pro1 Ported heads
Comp Cams 280XFI
HSR
TPIS Headers
3" Magnaflow Exhaust
58mm TB
32 Lb injectors
I've called all the big names -
Yank
Precision Industries (Vigilante)
Circle D
Can't get ahold of FTI due to hurricane stuff going on down there. (GodSpeed)
Prices are all about the same - right around $900 for a single disk lockup.
Does anyone have any personal experiences with each one? Right now i'm leaning towards the Yank SS3200. Car is primarily street driven, abused quite frequently.
Open to other brands if anyone has had any good experiences with them.
I have a remote mount plate/fin cooler I plan on tucking in where the spare tire sits.
Also have a water/meth kit I will be installing after the trans is in, for moar timing and power. Lol
Just looking for some opinions before I pull the trigger. Will be ordering a converter before the end of the week. Controller is a FAST EZ TCU.
Thanks for any input!!
Jeremy

I have an Edge converter in my car. Recommended by Dana Wilkes of Pro-Built Automatics. Works well and replaced the junk Boss Hog converter I put in there originally (self destructed in 150 miles).

I have a customer that just swapped a 4L80E into his 89....
We used Circle D for the converter. He's happy with it so far. They hit the stall speed pretty close and it's street manners are acceptable considering it's a pretty serious piece (4000+ stall).
There is a fair amount of work in a 4L80E swap. It's not as easy as some think, so be prepared.

Did you build an adapter or use one of the tail shaft pieces?

Thanks for your input! I've been researching this for about a year now. I have driveshaft shortening lined up, trans controller on the way. Biggest hurdle is going to be the adapting to the Cbeam. I've seen various ways of going about it.

I've had a Yank 3200ss in my 95 for almost 10 years now (60K). My engine is stock with just the GM hot cam kit and stainless works headers and puts just under 300 at the rear wheels.
It was my first and only personal experience with an aftermarket TC. They were very helpful on the phone and I've been very happy with the Yank.
Street driven only.

I would TCS a call, there out of Vancouver Canada. We went thru a bunch of converter racing diesel trucks. We could waste a converter in a single pass until we got a TCS converter. They make there stuff in house. Probably have one of the finest cnc shops going.

Well, if said individual would stop getting off plan, buying other stuff.... He'd be able to send me $$$$ and I'd be able to finish that "350". The "327" is for sale but people are more interested in.... I don't actually know what they are interested in - Other than talk.... If they were really interested in going fast and still daily driving their C4, that engine would in their C4 instead of still in his mess of a C4.
No worries thou. We will get it all done. He can put the 327 in a pick up truck or something and it can live out its life pulling the C4 with the new 350 around on a trailer.

Ordered an Edge Converter. Since I'm not making 40 thousand horsepower and just drive the car on the street, couldn't justify a $1000 purchase. I've already began stealing my neighbors aluminum cans for scrap money.
Thanks for the input guys! I'll let you know how it goes and try to get some pictures of my 80E Swap

Awesome idea using a C channel for the rear adapter for the 4L80E.
Curious on what your getting done to the transmission? You buying harden shafts, having extra clutches install. Any other upgrades?
I curious on how well the fast trans tuner works.
I'm running the fast ez LS tuners for my LQ9. I'm going to add a cam, heads and intake to my engine in the near future.
