Flip up/on headlights - 1987
Drivers side headlight won't flip up when turned on, well sometimes...1 time it flipped up and stayed up when I turned them off. Then I opened hood to check fluid levels and when I closed the hood it flipped back down. Now, I've tried a few more times to see if it functions and it won't flip up again? From anyone's knowledge, Do you believe that the motor is going bad or may this be a wiring issue since it works when it feels it want to? Any help here is appreciated.

This is a common problem with these cars. Most people just swap out new motrs and you are good to go.

Does 87 have the nylon bushings? I'd check if you have any power to the motor.

Early cars are different
put your fingers on the grey ****, if you feel anything it's in the motor.
unplug it and see if you can open the light. If the gears are ok it will open.
I've had mine out and was able to fix it.
take a swing at it replacements are @ $200

Good advise about feeling the motor and checking wiring. Those plug near the fender marker light could have easily come undone.

Believe it or not the connector was just loose enough to make it work whenever a bump was hit at the correct time! Simply clipped the connector back in place and it works now. Whew....close one!
If memory serves (and my wife's accusation that I'm losing my mind is in error) the 84 is a different motor with the swap to nylon bushings in '85.

The '84-'87's do not have the delrin bushing that so often cause problems in the '88-'96 headlight motors. The OP has an '87, so no bushings! This intermittent problem in the '84-'87 is usually caused by dirty limit switches inside the motor. Hopefully, you have found the right answer with the loose connector!
