Default Anyone done the Wilwood brake swap?

Saw the article in the December 2017 Vette magazine. Interested in reviews that are not paid for by the manufacturer.

if you have converted to the C5 fronts, that kit they show will work. it might work without the C4/C5 caliper adapter but not quite sure.

I have an older set of Wilwood 6 pistons on the front of my 1990. replacing the rears I will lose the parking brake

After a weekend @ CotA my 13" fronts were toast, and I upgraded to the Superlight 6R kit and it was night & day different. I also upgraded the rear rotors to the same slotted style I got for the fronts.

My ride-along was impressed at the brakes the next outing...

What year? If early, how did you make out with the parking brake in the rear? Ant pics?

for those new to the forum, a few photo's of your car would be informative, if not downright inspirational.

Early. bolted right up. Early (85) so uses stock parking brake setup. rear 2 piece rotor is made with the appropriate drum.

That being said it barely holds it on an incline but with my power I have been known to drive through it without issue.

There's a bit of confusion about what you're seeing in that story and what the Wilwood kit shown actually is.

The basis of that kit is the SLC56 four pot caliper kit. These are direct fit, replacement, bolt on calipers for the C5 and C6 knuckle using the stock size 12.8" diameter rotor. *Or other brand, finish etc. It's not your conventional BBK.

The rotors shown in the magazine article are secondary part: the 2pc hat and rotor (of the same oe spec size) and are NOT included in the SLC56 kit. They replicate the spec of the standard Corvette rotor and are not larger.

All of that is of course being fit to what appears to be a C3 car with C4 spindles! I can assure you that Wilwood has NOTHING to do with the adapters you see in those images.

All that said you have a LOT of hybrid, cross fit, adapted and substitutions going on here! Nothing wrong with that but it's very misleading to the reader.

Wilwood offers the SLC56 caliper kits for the C5 and C6. They offer replacement 2pc hat and rotor kits for the C5 and C6 also. *Although I'm not clear exactly why you'd spend the money on that combo when you can get a full 13" six pot kit for only a few bucks more...but that's not really the point either. They do not sell this as a KIT nor do they sell the adapter brackets to fit it to any other platform other than the specific spindles there were engineered to bolt onto.

I might also add that fitting this to the early car is likely to need a replacement master cylinder and I'd highly suggest one do the REAR caliper kit (same format) as well or you'll have a really jacked up bias and pedal. The D8 calipers have a lot more piston area then the SLC56 parts do. You're losing clamping with this new caliper actually. Moving to a smaller bore MC will be important to get more pressure and return the clamping loss. *But you'll need that in pairs- the rear also.

I like my 6 pot fronts.. I wish I could do the rears but I don't have a good reasonably priced solution for my parking brake on the rear

Thanks, mine bolted right up too, but the parking brake cable now mounts at a much more acute angle than it did before, so I’d like to see some photos of how someone else mounted theirs as maybe I’ve assembled something incorrectly. Also the rotor hat has no hole for parking bake adjustment. How did you adjust yours?

Mine is tighter also. I cut one lil tab off from what I remember. and my parking brake has always sucked and rarely use it
