Hello,
I'm new to the Corvette world and have question regarding the C4 auto transmission. When driving I have an intermittent
problem where the car does not seem to know when to downshift? I hear a slight klunking sound. This will not
happen all of the time but seems more apparent when it's hot outside. I checked the transmission fluid level as per the
manual when hot and the level is hard to read due to a lot of bubbles on the dip stick. I checked the level when cold where
the car had not run at all and the level is high up around the bend in the dip stick. The transmission color is bright red.
Does anyone have suggestions as to how to proceed with this problem? Thanks for your help, Jim
Fluid level can be corrected by taking cooler line loose at radiator and let fluid leak out. Start and stop engine will pump fluid out quickly but it can be very messy.

Why not just suck it out of the dipstick tube with a pump?
If you have something that will feed down the dipstick tube that would be ideal. Most people don't. There's such a pump commonly used to do oil changes on inboard boat engines. Since many times drain plugs aren't accessible due to hull a tube slides down dipstick tube and oil is sucked out.
