in a previous post i mentioned i got an IAT sensor (DTC #23: Intake Temperature Sensor Circuit Voltage High) related SES light, if the sensor was bad, but hadn't caused a code yet, how could it effect how the engine runs? could it cause a lack of power at low rpm? i ask because after the light came on, my low rpm power went up significantly, i assume once the light comes on, the computer will use some default value instead of this sensor.
It's my understanding that on a MAF car, the PCM uses only the MAF and O2 sensor's readings to set the correct injector pulse width unless the MAF sensor fails. Then the PCM goes into speed density mode. Speed density needs the IAT, MAP, ECT sensors to make a good guess of the correct injector pulse width. The IAT sensor is used at start up to determine the start mode (cold start or warm start).
