If I change my stock injectors with Accel 24lb ones do I have to change to an AFPR or will my stock one be fine? I'm not sure if the stock one will try and deliver too much fuel. I also just upped my TB to a 52mm.
It wouldnt be a bad idea to get an AFPR to tune with, but the ECM will compensate for the extra fuel.
If youve already bought the Accel injectors, thats ok, but youre better off with the Ford SVO #24s. Accels tend to have leak problems, even brand new ones.
An AFPR would be prudent to get. The ECM can only compensate so much. Keep in mind that there is a 22# injector variable that is in the ECM, so the computer does its calculations based off of that figure.
I just called to see if the GM performance store here has one and they have one in stock for $99. I can order one for a little less, but I'm putting everything in today so I might just spring the extra $ and go ahead and get it.
Are you buying just 1? Personally I would either have my set cleaned, or buy an entire new set. This would at least hopefully rule out over fueling or leaning out one cylinder compared to the others if it were more or less clean.
I am replacing all 8. I found out that previous owner had one go bad and bought one off brand for the #1 cylinder. I also think its too big because that plug is new and already covered black. The car is running rough and with good fuel pressure I'm thinking my problem is injectors. Instead of just replacing the one off brand I just bought 8 new ones in case there was a problem with one of the others so I wouldn't have to tear everything down twice. I already purchased and received the new ones. Accel offered 19 and 24lb so I went with the 24s. My car is sitting idle at the moment at a friends house and I'm taking the TB and injectors over tonight for him to install. If the best thing for me is to have a AFPR I would like to purchase it today so everything can be done at the same time. I also appreciate all the help.
I was told that Ford rates their injectors at a lower pressure than GM does and the times that I have used them, I had to trim the fueling in the prom more than I had calculated because of the additional flow at GM's pressure.
Well I went to GM parts store and told the cashier what kind of car I have and exactly what I needed. Slapped down $105 and left with my AFPR. I made a mistake by trusting the cashier since I was in a hurry and didn't check my part until I went to install it. Wrong part and store is now closed. I called Summit and they are sending me what I need and it will arrive Thurs. That means the car will be sitting for 2 or 3 more days. Good news is that the Summit part was cheaper and their parts always come with lots of stickers. I can sell these to ricers to get enough money for lunch.
