You will probably get different answers to the noise when letting off the throttle (engine braking).
Many report that they do get the backfiring/popping. However on my '94 6M with muffler eliminators I did not. It was a consistent noise without the popping. I liked it.
I do not know if this is a real cause or not, but I have a suspicion about the cause. Most of the ones that pop are '93 and older while the ones that don't seem to be the '94 and later. Is it possible that the sequential injection on the later cars offers better fuel control than the early cars?
I installed the muffler eliminators last month on my 94 after a lot of research and contemplation. It was one of the best upgrades I have done. My neighbor said, "now it sounds like a Corvette should".
I bought the two stainless pipes online, spent about an hour doing the install and never regretted it.
I am 67 years old and I don't care for very loud pipes, but these eliminators on the Vette are just right, No Dronning, Just make sure you leave the cats and the resonator on. Also the old mufflers weigh about 20 pounds each that you will be getting rid of. I will admit that I put the old mufflers up in the garage attic just in case I didn't care for the sound or if I ever sell the car. But for now the muffler eliminators are staying. I am sure you are making the right decision.

https://www.allencorvetteexhaustsystems.com. They make a pre bent muffler eliminator with the LT 1 tips. They can also chamber the pipes to control the noise ie as loud or quiet as you want. Go to the web site then call Mike and tell him what you have in mind. They made up a set for me and the sound and performance was exactly what I wanted. I also did the install myself. Good luck Mike
I have two Corvettes running the Allen's Chambered pipes. My 1988 Coupe's system came with the LT1 style outlets and the has no drone to drive you crazy. The sound is close to what side pipes sound like but the noise is out back instead. I installed both systems here at home with hand tools.
The sound is awesome and the quality is the same. I strongly recommend Allen's Stainless Exhaust systems!
I believe Allen's stainless also makes some of mid America's muffler eliminators. I have them on my car and also love the sound. Actually with the top on and windows up you can't even hear them but they are quite loud when you punch it and the windows are down. You can hear me coming from a distance. I don't know which systems are made by them and vice versa but they don't drone unless you really lug it. I went with dual zr1 tips because I like they way they look better than lt1 tips (preference) and the mufflers that were on the car when we bought it, before they rotted out, also had polished zr1 tips. I've heard the straight muffler eliminators and they sound a little raspy, like tuned vs untuned. Depends on the sound you want. I have a clip somewhere of what they sound like if you want. You'd be happy with whatever you end up doing.

If you took off cats and resonator and left mufflers on would that be better for power than to leave cats and resonator on and remove mufflers?I am gonna drive mine to the track and back on saturdays only.
I removed the muffler eliminator tips and put on new OEM mufflers with LT1 tips.
My biggest mistake was letting the muffler shop keep the fancy tips, could have got some money for them.

So you had no mufflers and put mufflers on because you did not like the sound?

Take your car local muffler shop and have them cut off your mufflers, bend new tubing, and reweld old tips onto to new tubing. Done
Did this a few months ago on my 96. Although I did add quad tips off of a C6. Sounds very mild with the cats and resonator still in place. Nice burble on cold start and just a little popping when engine braking.
