Sadly, the TCC in my 93 kicks in and out quite frequently in my local area (even in 3rd or "D" if you prefer).....lots of hills and 35-45mph speedlimits.
Im aware that the TCC is a "weak link" in the 700R4/4L60 and would like to save some wear and tear on it by manually selecting it's useage.
I do that on my bracket car. Wot lockup after the 2-3 shift. I have a 5 disk clutch in my converter. Simply ground the tcc wire going into the tranny with a console switch. When my car was on the street, I had the same setup and used the converter lockup as a 5th gear on the freeway.
I don't see why you wouldn't be able to. I would probably put the switch in as an interrupter to disable the lockup for areas like this instead of forcing it on. forcing it may cause premature wear to the transmission internals during shifts under load.

Has anyone wired in a switch to do this?
Aloha.
I would not try to hardwire - much simpler to edit existing BIN and get exactly what you need. You could hire someone like me (or many others) to burn you a new chip or buy the stuff to do yourself ! Hardware list - see Moates.net

For years I used to lock the converter up at the track after the 1-2 shift. It was worth a tenth in the quarter, but you're right, brutal on clutches. I stopped that after I broke a hardened input shaft on my Rossler built 4l60e. I now have a billet input shaft and I lock up the converter after the 2-3 shift. Tranny is over 4 years old now and happy. For a street car, I would lock the converter when the tranny was in 4th gear on the freeway. Never in any other gear.
The OP isn't asking about manual lockup in other gears, or when the ECM doesn't command lockup. He wants to disable ECM-controlled lockup.
To install a TCC-disable switch in a 93:
At the brake pedal, one of the switches has a connector with a purple and a pink/blk wire in it. Cut the purple wire, and insert a SPST switch inline. With the switch = ON, operation normal (ECM-controlled). With the switch = OFF, no lockup.
Exactly right. I used a switch from radioshack, mounted in the console thus:

At some point the PURPLE became LT GREEN/BLK so anyone wanting to do the switch needs to confirm with ECM wiring diagrams for their YM and I believe the switch configurations changed also at about '93. I ain't got a '93.
Most are very happy with either the PROM modification to maybe 50mph that's been mentioned or the switch. $$$, time and talent sometimes dictates choice.
