If I turn the exterior lights on the taillights will light up, but if I apply the brake, nothing. The reverse lights don't work either could it all be related?
Do the brake lights work at all if not the brake light switch may be broken or unplugged.
It is on the pedal.
As fōr the reverse lights check the bulbs and holders have good conectons. I had one bad conector but both could be burned or corroded . I dont see how they coud be related.
good luck
They lit up, but only with the light switch on, but as for applying the brakes no, they don't. I'm leaning towards the brake switch. For the reverse lights, everything looked good, but they don't work. Is there a switch somewhere for that?
I thought. i needed a backup switch for a minute. Turned out to be the bulbs. Do the side reverse light. There is a switch but (i am pretty sure, doublecheck)on the auto it is connected to the shift position under the center console, I am not sure on the 4+3.
Reverse light switch is certainly a possibility with the ZF - if you're not rushed some have actually had success with a "soak and exercise" of the detent ball. There's not an OE replacement but there are others with a short pigtail for the connector. If yours has a pigtail now it's NOT OE.
Maybe if your ZF hasn't been serviced recently OR never you do the "soak and exercise" expecting likely failure but you need the service anyway!
SLS seems very likely if your directionals currently work - if they don't then there's also a possibility of a directional switch failure etc.
SLS can sometimes just be repositioned at the pedal.
