Parking brake cable that runs from the handle inside the car...passes through the floor... and through a bracket bolted to the pinch weld.
How much should that bracket move/flex, if at all, when the brake is applied? Mine has a good bit of movement. Looks as though it is supposed to move, but I wonder whether it has become excessive due to age.
Trying to diagnose a poorly functioning parking brake.

Sorry, my old profile with my signature etc was messed up. I had to re-register with the site, forgot my information wasn't filled out when I set up the new profile.
The more I looked and thought about it, does make sense that the bracket flexes. A "spring" if you will to take up slack in the system. This is the first I've watched the system in action.
That whole area on my car is showing lots of signs of "age". Replaced just about every brake line running to and from the ABS unit, wasn't sure how great a toll mother nature had taken on the parking brake system.I appreciate you looking!

The way it is set up, I feel like it is part of the "return spring system" for the parking brake.
