Default axle support or not

I a have to work on my 89 drop top which is in need of some new end link bushings on the rear sway bar. Question is ...do I have to support the rear axles or is it safe to replace them with the only the frame supported?

Replacing the sway bar end link bushings will not affect the rear end. You can run with or without a sway bar. The rear end still will stay in place. The sway bar controls the amount of lean or sway in the rear end of a car when cornering.

Just need to take both rear tires off. Access to the link through bolts is a little awkward, but not bad. Replacing the bushings is a PITA..

Good luck. Never hurts to ask. Better safe than sorry.

I don't know if this will help or not. I replaced the swaybar end link bushings at the same time I did a suspension upgrade.

Support the car under the body in the pinchweld area ahead of the rear tires, both sides so the wheels hang free. Remove a wheel and you can unbolt the end link on that side. bottom end of the link you can do in the shop as it's easier in a vice with a socket, the other on the swaybar can be done on the car with a proper sized C clamp along with a socket rather than take the swaybar off if you like. Once one side is done, bolt it back together and do the other side.

Here's a picture of when I did mine. There's a bar on the hub, that was used to assist alignment of the suspension parts upgrade do don't worry about that for the swaybar bushings.
