My brother has an 85 that starts right up and as soon as he turns the key back to the run position it'll idle a couple seconds and die. If he holds the key in the start position it'll continue to idle but kinda rough. IT won't go above an idle. Do any of ya'll have any idea what might be causing his problem?
Thanks, Stafford

Is the battery fully charged? Has the alternator been checked for output?

He might need to replace the battery, it's over 2 years old. The alternator is charging great, 13.4 volts.

85 has a place for a pressure gauge on the passenger side rail....get one....fuel pump runs for two seconds....once you get oil pressure....that runs the pump....chances are it's running for 2 seconds and not starting again.....can't really tell until you get a pressure gauge on it....
