Hi vette lovers,, i'm experiencing an issue where i almost have to stand on the brake pedal to stop. My guess is the vacuum booster, as when I apply the brake pedal the engine changes its rpms
problyy not the hardest job in the world, especially if your young and in good shape. Just wondering if anyone out there had the same problem.

I had the same symptoms and it did turn out to be the brake booster. Can't remember where I got the replacement but it fixed the symptoms.
Good luck and show us a Pic of your car, I don't think I've seen a 40th edition vert before. Thanks
Changing the break booster seems straight forward, but the 4 nuts holding it on are difficult to reach above the break pedal. One or 2 of the nuts are positioned right by the pinch where the panels/reinforcement meet. Save your back and pull out the driver seat.
I have the same problem with my Ruby.Replaced the booster and still have the problem.Have the booster checked out before you replace it.I did mine myself and I would not like to do it again. It took me almost a week to do it.I am know looking at the A/S system to make sure it not the problem.
I had a similar issue- not quite as bad. It was a bad vacuum line. So, you may want to check the vacuum first. Another issue could be the check valve in the brake booster.
Hello out there. Just wondering if A faulty vacuum booster check valve can cause symptoms such as a hard pedal. Leading me to believe the booster itself is bad
On ebay there was one for sale for 145 bucks. (Wow)
I recently posted that I was experiencing a braking issue which indicated to me that the booster was defective. After seeing the check valve on line I'm wondering if that could be the problem. I seem to recall a million years ago I had an 89 gmc 1 ton van
With the same symptoms and after the mechanic replaced the booster the problem still existed. I can't remember what the fix was. In line filter? Any info will b greatly appreciated
One quick way of knowing if Booster is bad is if you step on the Bake a Definite Audible Hiss much louder Than any you my have heard in the past can be Heard inside the car.
I recently went thru two boosters the factory one cracked/split above the Master and a Year later same thing than again a year plus poor brakes this time the leak was inside the booster.
The check valve is easy to check just unplug it with the engine running and see if a vacuum is there. Second test is run shut off wait a couple minutes and see if a pop or very loud hiss when you pull the check valve from the booster.
