Okay, I know you can program the ECM with a Rev limiter..
I also know that if you buy a MSD 6AL or Digital 6 it has a revlimiter.
My question if you have a 6AL box will a ROM pill for 4K rpm. at 4K rpm what does the limiter do, cut power to the the Dibtrib meaning just the Battery line?
Reason I ask is I would like to install a 2 step, but I don't think I need a MSD just quite yet. I am looking for a different solution..
The MSD rev limiter works by dropping spark to selected cylinders. It doesn't actually drop power to the distributor, it just kinda "loses" the signal to fire, but it still sends out the proper tach output.
Jeff, the L98 ECM cuts fuel when you reach the programmed RPM, and then turns ie back on at another set variable.
The MSD boxes have a "soft touch" limiter like Nathan said. It will drop spark (not fuel) to selected cylinders and then alternate them. So your normal firing order of 18436572, might turn into something like 1467...8352...1467....8352. Much much much nicer on the engine components.
