Default headlight trouble

My father has a 90 vette. when you turn the headlights they start to turn slowly and then stop and creep open sometimes they hang and then open or when closing they close half way and stop you can flip the switch and they will go down but sometime they will go all the way down but the motor will still be running what is going on here and what to do to fix it

Read this thread. It's a fairly easy fix if you have any mechanical ability at all.

how do i get to the gears and bushing
You probaly, most likely, only need the bushings. MAD or Ecklers has them for around $4.99 a side.

Your 90 should be easy to do. Remove the theadlight assy from the car. There are about seven bolts holding it in. There is one tricky one on the upper inside that is hidden behind a clamp. Also disconnect the two wire connectors

Once you have the assy out, look at the motor! It connects to a large round housing which is the gear and your targrt, the bushings!

Three screws secure the round cover to the round housing. Be carefull and remove these three screws. When you remove the cover, use a razor blade to carefully separate the gasket from the housing and lift off the round cover

You will see the large drive gear and a bunch of crap

Carefully pry the large gear up and out. Clean the junk out. Turn the large gear over to expose the metal side and you will see where the three bushings go

Reinstall, (pressing in) the large gear with the new bushings and reinstall the cover and then reinstall the assy. reconnect the 2 wires and VOILA!

The first light might take you an hour or two, but the second light will be less than an hour
