The DynoMax SuperTurbo for the L98 (I cut this one open)
It has two open outlets, but only one is a direct path, the other just open to the last chamber and just makes noise.
These droned like crazy and welding the fake one closed made them almost stock quiet.
The DynoMax UltraFlow for the L98 (Cut by me also), actually has two full open outlets, but they extend way into the chamber.
Droned like crazy also and plugging one side helped, but still a very loud muffler.
And someone else posted these labeled stock ... stock what I don't know.
What the path inside is ... I can't figure?
I suppose you could get into the issue of perforation -- which reminds me of the comparison of a smooth vs turbulent intake tube! I'm going back to the 2000cfm though!
Yeah, I think in the Walker's case the holes are just holes: they don't have edges that protrude into the exhaust flow. If they were to have protruding edges, then that gets really restrictive really fast. My guess is that Magnaflows are similar in that respect.

In looking at the cross-section of this "performance" muffler makes me feel less "bad" about shoving those SideEffects up the butt of my 383! This muffler makes the same (dumb?) 360-deg worth of turns before exiting to it's final destination.
Now THAT'S more like what I call tight radiused turns.

Made me cringe a little.... LOL Fake ***** has always been the wrong term IMO. Better isn't necessarily "fake". Do those of us who have performance mods have "fake Corvettes"?

No sir! I like BOTH!!!
I'll take what is perky. Fake or rail. Although motor boating is more fun when they are fake and large.

I wonder if the first "Turbo" muffler is an attempt to put the two outlets slightly out of phase? If the left half of the initial inlet continues straight to the right outlet -- while the other half winds around to the other one, the outlets have different timing. (Not sure if phase is the right word here). Maybe the out-of-synch exits were supposed to accomplish some sound abatement?
That last pic might be the factory leveraging helmholtz resonance -- where sound bounces around in TWO of the internal tubes canceling soundwave in the front chamber. The lower outlet is probably a dummy. (The back 2" is likely a chamber that connects the middle and bottom tube...while the other outlet passes through it...w/o exposure to that rear chamber.) That would create a canceling wave that ran smack dab into the oncoming inlet waves....before the gases pass over the the other outlet.

So because I was curious, I did a "test check" on my 89 by putting one hand over each side of the factory OEM tail pipe. Both were working equally. I must be mnistaken as I thought that the factory 89 mufflers had only one side that worked?
On the ZR1, only one side works with the inboard side for cosmetic, with a small hole drilled in it. Seems dumb to me.
The factory correct replacements on the 84 states both pipes work vs the oem only one. They say it has a small valve like thing that opens under more rpms or something iirc. At idle both smoked in the cold. One more than the other.
We can calculate that my Borla has a pair of pipes going into the cat and out through a 3 in pipe. I know I make 420 RWHP because the dyno said so. So maybe estimate of 550 at the crank to give a little leeway? Maybe we can figure out which exhaust can accommodate it with the least amount of backpressure? So from there, maybe ask which exhaust can flow 550 HP worth of power and find the quietest from there? Just a thought.

I personally don't think 420whp = 550hp at all. My b2k made 440rwhp which is about what a C6Z makes and they were rated at 505hp.
I do not know what my engine makes with everything removed on an engine dyno but I cannot see north of 500 under any circumcisions. However I usually overestimate for a couple of reasons.
1. When doing engine estimates, treat it like a fat girl. More cushing for the pushin. If you estimate 480 and it is 500,you have a problem. If u estimate 550 and it hits 500, life is good.
2. When you have a girl that asks you how endowed you are. If you are 10 inches, say 12,cut the shrubs to make the tree look bigger, do a few minutes of crunches and hope she doesn't pull out the tape measure. If she does, suck in hard and pull the tape end as close to the body as possible
funny thing is I have 4.11 gears and thats when I noticed it even more. The guy who built my trans said he was giving me a 2800 stall speed converter but I reallt do not think thats the case. when he was ask he said my original converter was cut opeh and "modified" to make it that stall. has anyone heard of this? i pretty sure its not the reason for the drone but I wanted to give All info. the Dynomax mufflers I have are the 84 reproductions

What brand? Precision Industries will restall it that way. Don't know who else does it.
