Default Headliner foundation

Anyone have trick to making a foundation for the headliner on a 1995 . I pulled mine out today to recover and the foundation is junk. Trying to not have to buy something expensive. Ideas?

Got the headliner in! Thought about the foundation and went to Office Depot and bought a sheet of foam core board. Used my broken foundation as a template and cut one out. Covered it with headliner material from Joann's Fabrics and attached it to the top with velcro. It worked great and looks great! We'll see how it holds up. Thanks for all the suggestions.

I am assuming your car has a fabric covered fiber board. I redid my 85 headliner many years ago. The fiber board was not worth repairing. So what I did was threw it away and just took some new headliner material and glued it directly to the roof panel. The frame has a gap all the way around and if you cut the material slightly oversize it will tuck under it making for a very clean install. I also gained a little extra head room. It has held up extremely well and would do it the same way all over again. Good luck on your repair.

Did you try to remove the foam from the top, OR, just cut away the fabric?

Yes I removed the foam from the car along with the fabric.

Before I did mine I did some research and found out the foam should be left on. Unlike other cars where the foam drops out and you put the fabric on the foam, you just remove the fabric and cut it away for the vette. I did not think it would work with just tucking in the fabric on the sides but it comes out looking fine.

I suggest you search and call some places that specialize in corvettes aftermarket parts and look for a damaged top where the foam is good. There is a large business in Mims, FL by me called Costal Corvette (huge inventory). They may be able to help. (321-480-0228 cell)

Never thought of doing it that way. Thanks

That's exactly how I did my 1985. Only thing I did differently was I made a paper pattern that fit the roof and then used that to cut out the headliner material.

Thanks, I edited my original post after I repaired the headliner.
