Re: Flushing and Refilling ABS (black86ycar)
Anything special to consider when draining and refilling brake system on a ABS car?
Yes, do not drain your brake fluid. Flush it, with new from the master to each wheel. If you don't know what you are doing, take the car to somebody that does. Will save you a lot of problems.
Hmm. Interesting. This is one of those things we've done so many times before that we would not even think of consulting the manual. I always bleed from furthest away to closest. Hope it works....that's how I just bled mine. Too much rain to drive it, but the pedal feels good.
Scorp,
FWIW, my 96 FSM says RR, LR, RF, LF in both the ABS section and the brake section. Since there's two schools of thought on this and nobody is reporting problems, I figure the real key is to actual flush it.
BTW, as long as you flush the brakes often (once every year or two) there's no need to bleed the ABS pump, it cycles on every start up cycle and circulates the pump's fluid into the regular brake lines. If you haven't flushed the brakes or aren't sure if they've ever been flushed, just do the procedure twice in one month to put the system right.
