EGR Crossover Pipe

On my 86, can this be removed? Damn thing is a PIA !!!! Keep melting the aftermarket aluminum jackets I buy on line... Also, the little sensor... what does that do? Will the car run ok without the both pieces? Of course I will plug the ex & intake manifolds...

My 86 runs fine without them. I removed the EGR tube, welded the header shut, and got a delete kit off ebay to plug the EGR holes in the intake manifold.

I cut the wire off of the sensor and taped it up.

To do it correctly you also need to disable the error code in the chip.

I'm running a stock ECM and haven't had it throw any errors (no SES light, no codes) without the EGR.

I think it throws the code UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS and doesn't test for function on startup.

The switch will throw a 34.
FWIW I wrapped the pipe with aluminized fiberglas wrap. Finished with .020 safety wire.
