Howdy, following up on an oil filter removal boo boo, which removed the oil cooler instead of the filter on my 1987 z52.
What's the specs for the cooler tube install? Nothing found in FSM. My initial guess is white soft sealant and about 20 ish lbs of torque, but not very confident with this.
Do not use sealant. It uses a gasket similar to an oil filter. I just tighten mine moderately. About the same as an oil filter or a little more. Never torqued it.
Some year FSM mention 13 lb. ft. for cooler. Your situation I'd think is maybe the result of mounting the oil filter "dry" and over tightening. Lube the filter sealing ring and tighten appropriately.
As mentioned 'no sealer' and since you've the OE 'thicker' gasket I'd say you're all set.
