Do you think it is nessesary to use octane booster in a stock 89 or is the 97 octane at the pump adequate for the engine? If you do think octane is needed ,what is a good brand to use?. You see alot of differant types of octane booster at places like WalMart, are these good to use or should you use something like Morroso?
Thanks
Paul
97 octane at the pump? I'm not sure about 89's but in my 1992 the owners manual reads to use 91 or higher octane. The mobil station near my house is 92 or 93 and it runs fine. I think the L98's probably require the same octane, but i'm sure someone who know will respond.
If you are getting a ping from the engine running high test gas you may have the base timing advanced to much. Its also possible that you have a carbon build up or a malfunctioning EGR. Oh, by the way, sunoco stations around here sell 94 octane.
If you're having problems while running on 97 octane, a little octane booster isn't gonna help you. Octane boosters only raise octane by a small percentage. let's say you start off with 93 octane. Add some NOS brand octane booster and you will end up with around 93.8 octane fuel in the tank. Do a search on the forum here and you will find it has been discussed many times before, with some very good links to information provided, so you can make up your own mind. Personally I wouldn't waste my money.
