Has anyone been able to do a trans fluid analysis and see if the synthetics are mainly a "No issues", IOW, "Don't know more than it works." or has someone tested and shown that regular stuff works but the synthetic stuff has some sort of an edge or no difference?

If you come to me with an oil that costs twice as much as regular BUT lasts twice as long, it is still a bargain since I figure time into the equation. After all, whether the shop does it or I do it, time is still involved and time IS money.
Couldn't agree more... But, people are funny they buy a $200,000 RV and bitch about $240 for a fluid change that gets them a100,000 mile transmission warranty.

Me... I will do a double drain/fill.

This is what I use in anything I have that calls for a Dexron III spec.

My guess is that it is simply about the sticker shock. If they pay less at the register TODAY, it is considered cheaper even though they may pay more over the life of the product and thus more desirable.

I will be changing the tranny fluid and filter on my 2003 Vette and since I can’t remove all the fluid can I mix Dextron VI with the original Dextron III?

Thanks

This is it's 1st service or your 1st service of it? You've serviced it previously? Miles?

I use the Allison spec 295 (TRANSYND295) product for my '03 4T65E. I've bought most recently from an International dealer because they're closer than the Allison affiliate I bought from for years. Possible sources

I used Dextron VI in both my 2000 Impala and 95 Camaro, both originally calling for Dex III. You can mix the two fluids. Getting all the old out is not that important IMHO. One method is to siphon out the old, refill, drive it for a while and drop the pan for a filter and fluid change. That will get a good percentage more, but as the other member said it some will be in the torque converter. I did a siphon then change with my Impala at 80k and just a replacement and filter at 180k. I am at 245k and thinking of doing just a filter and fluid change again. Only have ever done a pan drop and filter on the Camaro. And done it about every 45k and once more when I replaced the driveshaft (now at 150k).
