Default Door Weatherstripping

Need some advice from those of you who have installed weatherstriping.

Just replaced my driver's side door main weatherstriping today. The door is tough to close now; I tried adjusting the striker and latch and lubing the weatherstripping and it is still tough to close. My hopes aree that the new weatherstriping will settle a bit; any advise?

Thanks,
Ken

It should get better in a little while. I had the same problem. Don't start messing with all the adjustments just yet. If you get the door out of wack, its a bitch to get back and lined up. Just keep the doors closed tight.

Thanks for the advise Jon, I'll hang tight and work on my door slamming skills for a bit.

It's actually the main weatherstriping that goes around the door itself. Even with the window down it's very difficult to get the door latch to lock.

Despite the closing frustration the door is inline with the body and the leak, small rattle and roadnoise is gone.

New door weather stripping makes the door hard to shut for awhile. But, if it is just too tight, there is a possibility you got a set from a 1990 and up door. They are bigger and thicker at the ends, particularly at the front end of the door.

It is a little hard to describe, but on the "big" end of the strip there are some "veins" molded into the rubber that stand up just a little. On the 84-89 there is a single vein about 2.5 inches long. On the 90 and up the veins curve more, are about 5 inches long and split into a "Y" for about an inch.

I took some pics, but they are 35mm and not developed. Sorry no digital cam :nonod:

If you apply very gentle pressure, how far is your door open when the rubber stops it? With the correct new seals mine stops at about 6 inches and takes a FIRM push to shut it. With the 1990 seals it stops at about 16 inches and I was afraid to shut the door it was so tight.

The good news was that I got my set from Corvette Rubber and when I called them, they shipped me the right stuff that day.
