Hello,
I am new to owning a Corvette, I have an 86 and I keep hearing how people pull codes to diagnose there cars, I bought an OBD 1 code reader and plugged it in hoping to see what's wrong with my car. On the dash it has a cover that just says Corvette. Also when I start the car nothing lights up or does anything on the panel, is this normal or is something wrong with the car?
Thanks

if you had a code, the check engine light would be on....jump a paper clip between pin A and B on your ALDL...under the dash....count the flashes....everything in threes....three 12's and then three sets of any codes....it will end with three 12's again....1 flash 2 flash, 1 flash 2 flash, 1 flash 2 flash....do a search on this site, you;'ll find more specif info on how to do this....clear them by disconnecting the neg terminal...an 86 has a separate wire off the neg terminal that would do this....and most importantly,,, get a FSM
That cover MAY be blocking out your DIC lights. Most are opaque and will still allow service lights to be seen. You may have one that is too dark.
I tried to pull it off one day with a small flat head screwdriver but stopped right away because I was afraid of breaking it. When I put the key in the ignition I can even see any lights. is there a way to get it off with out breaking it?
Thanks
