Is there a definite difference in a "performance" TPS setting of .65 versus .54? If so, why didn't GM make is like this from the factory? Does it idle higher with the higher setting? I think I'll have to try both and see for myself! :)
Not sure if there is a difference or not. Some time back I was adjusted at .64, and recently went back to .55. I don't think I felt any difference. Throttle response may have improved, but doubt it would be sotp feelable.
Upping the TPS base idle value shouldn't effect idle speed.
Remember that the General set up our engines with a series of compromises in mind, not just for optimum power and responisveness.
The ECM uses the TPS reading, along with other parameters, to index into the injector pulse width table as well as into the spark advance table.
So setting the base TPS value higher adds an offset to these two curves; also the ECM will see the WOT condition a little earlier.
If you are going to "test" the two settings I hope you do it at the strip with very good traction as any differences aren't likely to be more that a tenth or so.
Actually .65 is too high for mine. Anything over .64 sets a code 21.
My 87 doesn't have a smooth launch unless I feather the pedal. The higher it's raised the faster the ECM reads WOT. Plenty of jack rabbit starts from a stop. ;) :D
