Default Booster - C4 1993 40th edition RubyRed

Hi all. Joining to learn more about my vette and to get advice on a few things. Recently replaced booster due to brakes not really stopping car quickly. Changed booster and they still feel off. No warning ABS lights come on unless I really press hard on brakes. Is this common?

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your C4! Always liked the Ruby Red on the 40th.
You'll probably get the best results to your question if you post in the tech or general areas of the C4 section: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-1984-1996-19/
Best wishes with correcting this issue.

By the way, you didn't mention if you did any other brake work or checked other areas. Are the brake pads worn down? Any chance you have air in the line (does your brake pedal sink down if you continue to hold your brake pedal down?).
I've been away from C4s for a while but in my experience, the ABS light will not come on during normal braking; only when you are braking hard enough that the ABS is engaged (you'll feel a faint pulsing in the brake pedal when ABS is engaged - this is the system modulating the brakes).
Hoping it's an easy fix for you!

I’m going to move this to the C4 Tech section for answers to your questions. That way you don’t have to create a new post over there.

Thank you for the information. The brake pads are new. I will check again the pressure when I press the brake pedal to see if there is any air. Hopefully that is all that it is. Great info!

When you get the ABS light are you getting an ASR or brake light as well?

The light went off when I topped off the fluid resovoir. Just loss of pressure when I apply brake. Then when car is warmed up car will brake ok. Just feels weird at first

C4 brakes have a known history for soft/hard pedal issues. There was a thread a long time ago where it was discussed in depth. Booster, pads, rotors, lines, fluid, adjustment of booster rod, abs resetting. So many things.
I personally have C4 with C5 brakes, new booster x2, one was cracked due to headers right next it, Hawk HPS pads ZR1 size tires.. Pedal is hard all the damn time but stops easily.
I just gave up, and just drive it and adjust leg pressure as necessary.

Thanks for the info. Just wanted to see if this was a common or known issue before investing more money into finding a "fix" As long as I can stop, then I will be ok with this.

Hi folks. So i took the car to the mechanic. they found this. The battery was dead and had been on low voltage for some time. I asked them to replace and check ABS again. They replaced battery and performed a Brake Relearn procedure which re-enabled the ABS/ASR to its original state. This corrected the breaking issue! So to recap. the faulty battery was causing the issues with the ABS light and not engaging. Glad it was only that and nothing more. Brakes work great now.

I had an airbag light on in my Mercury, uh, oh $$

Turns out my battery was on its last legs, new battery = no airbag light

WHat is this Brake Relearn Procedure. I want to know what they did. Please find out.

+1 on hearing about brake relearning to see if any might apply to a '91
