I have a set of Allen's chambered deletes waiting to be installed on my car. I am debating the H pipe. Where did you place the H pipe in your system? Can you describe what you mean when you say it evens out the sound? thx

How many others on the thread have installed the H pipe?

I don't have a catalytic convertor any longer (antique plates) and my dual exhaust used to just go from the manifolds straight to the mufflers. When I put the Allens chambered muffler deletes on in place of the full size mufflers, my exhaust note seemed to be a little unsettled at idle and just plain loud. Sort of like glasspacks. Not a good sound. When I placed the "H" pipe in the system, the flow became even between the two pipes and a more mellow rumble was acheived. Nice! My "H" pipe was welded in about halfway back in the exhaust pipes. The "H" pipe resembles the letter "H". Some guys use an "X" pipe. It resembles the letter "X". I think they are similar in what they do. Everyone I know with straight through pipes on their C4 has one or the other for the same reasons I did. I HIGHLY recommend the "H" pipe. It made a world of difference in giving the exhaust note a "tuned" sound. It's relatively cheap to buy and install.

Not trying to hijack thread, but
is there an advantage to ordering pre fabbed deletes over having a muffler shop remove mufflers and bend new pipe in their place?

if you want different tips than what you have. That's about it.

The advantage is that pre-fabbed deletes can have "chambering" built into them as my "Allens" deletes have. This gives a better sound in my opinion. Also the stainless steel tips are installed ahead of time. These additions cost about twice the cost of plain bent pipes at a muffler shop.

Default Glad I did it!

I just did the muffler delete mod on my '92 LT1 6-speed Coupe. I had straight pipes welded in by my local muffler shop, and the best part is they had an extra set of stock LT1 tips they threw in for free. That way if I ever decide to go back to the stock mufflers, I can have the old mufflers/tips welded right back on.

The sound is much louder but it sounds like a Corvette should sound. I have a fair amount of droning on the freeway at 65mph in 6th gear, but it largely goes away at higher speeds.

On deceleration, I get a series of rumbles, pops, woofs, and burbles that sound fantastic.

I call it my "Budget Borla" mod.
