idler pulley bouncing
I was under my hood the other day with the car running and I noticed the idler pulley was bouncing a lot. I used my long screwdriver to listen to all the components and the only thing making a lot of noise is the air pump. Do I need to replace the pump or the Idler assembly?

The idler pulley should not be bouncing at all. All is does it provide tension on the serpentine drive belt. I'd say the tensioner spring is shot. Replace the whole thing. About $90 for the part, including the pulley itself. Very easy to do. I think the air pump does make alittle air movement noise, but not much. It may be faulty too. Don't the price on that, tho.

Sounds like your idler pulley is shot. If the spring is in good shape there would be no movement at all.
