about to kill this thread. Doesn’t seem to be much interest. I suppose most C4 guys are too busy posting about how to hop up the L98s and other ways of wasting money. 😳
LS swaps go over extremely poorly here.

You making some pretty decent progress Sean, curious how you securing the rad into position. I know mine was a pain in *** (just took for ever) to secure in, as I built everything from scratch. Have you started the engine yet?

Keep the post coming buddy, once you get the car running again you will be impressed. My LS swap works pretty decent.

I've thought about trying to keep it sbc and going LS, and it seems like it would cost more to stay sbc, as well as trying to find someone to burn chips and tune.

Sorry to hear you are going to do that...... I enjoy reading about these conversions. IMO the problem is, on this forum the general attitude is, "you do it my way, or your stupid" Personally, I like to see LS, BBC, L98, LT1-4 set ups. There are advantages and disadvantages to all of them.
Right now, in the general section, there is a thread going about, "what a bad idea it was to have a automatic in a vette"
A few weeks back, someone ask about putting a carb on a LT1.... Again, the attitude is , "its not what I would do, so its stupid"

I really hope you reconsider... FWIW I enjoy following your post and Mikes.

Take the plunge into the LS world Its a better designed engine the sbc gen 1. My engine bone stock LQ9, and I'm sure it will keep up 99% of the tweaked strung out 383 sbc out there.
LS engines are also easier to work on. Tuning adjustments on the LS is super easy. I can easier change AFR, timing, idle adjustments and so on in less than 30 seconds.

I run a 180 deg thermostat in mine engine. Sean, you have to be careful filling coolant into the engine. I usually disconnect the top drive side rad hose and fill up the engine with coolant until its full. I've filled coolant into the top like the sbc engine, but you vapor lock the top end of the engine and your engine will be prone to over heat and/or run hot. Today LS engine have a remote fill set-up, my old 85 vette doesn't. Just one of my learning.

5.3L engine just kick ***, seen a few on youtube bone stock 5.3L survive drag track with 20 psi of boost. Just with a simple cam your 5.3L upgrade your into power levels of your 383 sbc

I can't wait to see your car Sean back to driver status.
