Default Did I find the problem

I am sorry to ask so many questions. Into my first opti, plugs and wires. I have been chasing a rough idle with what seemed like a miss but did not throw a code. All the connections of the wires to the plugs and the opti and the coil seemed perfect EXCEPT the connection of the coil wire to the opti. Both the wire connector ring and the opti post were 100% covered with a thick tough white corrosion. Pulling it off broke some away but looking at both they appear solid white. Could this have been my problem or is this semi normal. Thank You all very much! Dan

I can't say for certain you found your problem BUT corrosion on ANY plug wire is a problem. Make sure you clean the contacts and put dielectric grease on it or just change the wires. I chased a idle/part throttle misfire on my Caprice (L99) for a long time and finally found the wires were "leaking" voltage. Wires were arcing together and almost looked like a web. It was VERY hard to see. I only saw it when I went out at night at looked very closely. Changed the wires and the issue went away.

I even followed the "advice" of the internet and changed the opti as well. It wasn't the opti and unfortunately its the scapegoat for ALL ignition/fuel problems...
