Default LT4 Plenum

I am contemplating upgrading my 96 LT1.Only looking for a little more performance. The car has the performance axel. I don't want to spend a lot of money, nor tear the engine completely down. Edelbrock has an LT4 upgrade kit. Heads, new cam and a new plenum. Has anyone seen any data on the difference between the LT1 and LT4 plenums ( besides the color.). Maybe a small procharger.

The primary difference in the LT4 and LT1 intakes is the height of the intake runner. The LT4 runners are .100 taller. The plenum, the part above the runners, volumes will very close. Since the intake ports are larger on the LT4 the total volume of the intake will be larger. The LT4 intake will contact valve covers on LT1 heads.

you should get the flow nbrs and then look at the offerings from lloyd elliot. for the most part, from everything that I have seen, the different manifolds don't flow much better than the stock LT1 manifold does, the gains come from the heads and cam, with the money you save by going to someone, such as LE, you could get roller rockers, etc.

Somewhere I once saw dyno test results of stock lt1 and edlebrock and a lt1 plenium that had been ported and cleaned up inside. It gave better results than the after market unit. Might try googling it.

I think the take-away here is to NOT spend the money. Port match or fully port your original and run the wee out of it.
