Default Knock Sensor(s) on a 96 LT4

This is in regard to a 96 CE with LT4. Two Knock sensors? I found the passenger side one, and I am guessing there must be a second one on the driver's side. Is it in the same place? Anything obscuring it from view? Thanks!

I kind of see it in there now. I can't see all of it, but looks like there's a plate of some sort in front of it, that mounts to the oil pan bolts. Sound right? if not, maybe it's an aftermarket shield of some sort. Anybody know? The car has a lot of aftermarket performance parts and add-ons, so maybe it is...Just want to be sure.

Thanks!

There is a heat shield on both sides from the factory to protect the wiring from exhaust heat. They are held on with 2 nuts on studs for the oil pan. Hope this helps.

Yes both knock sensors are in approx the same place on opposite sides of the block. The shield is easy to remove, or depending on your modifications, hopefully it is still easy to remove. Be careful removing the clip/wire from the end of the sensor, squeeze and pull. May need to squeeze firmly.

The connectors came out easy, and also the shield...but there was a shield on the driver's side only. Both sides have the shield? Luckily, I saw a '96 at the salvage yard...hope it's still on there.

Thanks!

Both sides are suppose to have shields. LT1 and 4 are the same shields. If your replacing the sensors make sure you get ones for a LT4, they are different sensitivity than the LT1 ones.

L98 and any LT1/4 would have the same 'right side' shield'

Short answer:
OBD-II (1996-1997) knock sensor GM PART # 10456287 ACDelco #213-325

Explanation:

According to this thread...
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...different.html

...there is no difference between LT1 and LT4 knock sensors. The difference is between the OBDI and OBDII computer management system - OBDII started in 1996.

So the 1995 LT1 and 1996 LT1 have different knock sensors.

Your 1996 LT4 takes the same knock sensor as a 1996 LT1.

The part numbers on Rock Auto match the info in the thread linked above:

1995 detonation sensor
https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...on+sensor,5108

1996 detonation sensor
https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...on+sensor,5108

Sitting behind the steering wheel 'right side' is passenger side. I use that terminology for all so long as the car is RWD.

That's what I would think, but wanted to be sure. Thanks!
