A few weeks ago I finished changing opti, plugs, wires and Dewitt radiator. When finished I kept getting Crank position sensor codes. I figured I must have knocked it or something. Bought a new Duralast at Autozone. I can't get under enough to do this so took to local shop and they put it in for $50.00. Codes went away but leaked a lot of oil. I figured it was just a cheap part so ordered an AC Delco from Rock auto for 3 times what the first cost. When the mechanic pulled the duralast the o-ring was all torn up. I looked at it carefully and the o-ring was all full of small cracks and very brittle. I could have just replaced the o-ring. SO, this defective o-ring cost me $150.00. Dry as a bone now.

The o-ring didn't cost you $150. Your choice did. A solution to this 'originally' would have been let the shop supply the part then the repair would have been 'on them'. Installation problem? Who knows. I've a friend that always checks closely o-rings for issues. He'll sometimes change an o-ring if he doesn't like it's appearance. He say's it saves him lots of $$$.
There's no assurance that 'brand' had anything to do with a successful 'fix'.
