busted shock absorber on 95

I was driving my 95 yesterday & all of a sudden heard ...clunkidy clunk...crack...from the front & got home & examined the Tokico shock & the rod sheared off inside the shock. I have never seen this happen on any car before & dont think it is common. I didnt hit any potholes or curbs. I am disapointed that shocks could have a failure like this. I will buy a set of good shocks & installation is easy. I bought the car 2 months ago & have no idea how long they have been on the vette. Were Tokico standard on 95"s? Are Tokico's a crappy brand? I thought they wee supposed to be good but not as good as Bilstein or Koni. :chevy

I would go with bilsteins.You get what you pay for.

In 95, the only stock shocks were Bilstein. Someone tossed out a good set of rebuildable cores when they put the Tokico shocks on. Assuming you don't have the adjustable shocks (the FX3 option with the adjuster switch between the seat adjustments) I'd go for a set of new Bilsteins or some adjustable HALs.

Might be a good time to upgrade the swaybars while you're there :)
