All, just was doing some research and was curious if anyone has looked at IAT temps before and after an EGR delete on an L98?? There are tons of posts with IAT temps post coolant bypass, but none for EGR. PO put a cam in my 89 L98 w/ aluminum 113 heads and 1.5 rockers that i'm pretty sure was an LT4 hot cam or close to it. I'm considering deleting the EGR because of the tighter LSA of the cam, but am still gathering thoughts and input. Of course it would be tuned out, etc. I've also done the coolant bypass
In a Syclone or Typhoon (4.3L V6, port injected, very similar layout to an L98) at cruise, the EGR is about 40% duty cycle. IAT runs in the 160-170. With EGR defeated, IAT runs about 10-20 deg over ambient. Always less than 115 deg F.
Exhaust gas is HOT. I'll bet it makes a lot of difference in IAT's at cruise when EGR Duty Cycle is highest.
Just from the idiot logic seat that is sorta what I was thinking. I can let the car idle until temps are 195-200 and put my hand on the intake and it is cool to the touch. EGR duty cycle should be 0 there. I take the car out on a cold day for a quick 15-20 minute easy run and that intake feels like fire when I get back. In the name of science I might have to try this out and data log before and after and see what actually happens lol
