Man some guys sure know the quick way to the top of a poopie list. I'll think twice about helping this dude in the future. I had seen that scorp and thought it sure seemed odd, good call, hope you get it!
He literally is selling it as a "6-speed out of my wrecked 1998 corvette." It says 1998 in three places on the ad.
Either he's too stupid to know what year his car was or too stupid to figure out what kind of transmission he stole so he could lie about it believably. Something's definitely fishy here, but if that pinhead comes out on the short end of this deal, I'd say he got what he deserves.
This sure looks like a ZF6 to me. Besides the trans looking like it, the slave cylinder, bellhousing, shifter and boot all look super familiar, and it stared at mine in the garage for four months.
Just be careful Scorp, it has to be shipped from Florida. I had mine open for inspection before the install, the gasket kit cost $100 bucks from Bill Bordeau at ZFdoc., I might be able to hook you up with the number of a transmission shop that has a parts tranny, but it's in storage if anything looks chronic. I would recommend checking it out before installing, it's A LOT of work.
You will love this transmission with all that motor. :chevy :chevy
P.S., speaking for myself, I would've seen it on ebay w/o the post, but it did suck that somebody posted it.
Scorp, it's probably hot if the guy says "it's out of my wrecked...." and it's not correct. Is it just my eye, or does it look like the back half was separated at some point. The bolts looked shiny. You need to find out what year and model it came out of, because not only were the ZR1 bellhousing holes diferent, but the output shaft on the 89 thru 91 or maybe even the 92's were .035" larger in diameter. (that's one of the reasons why they were rated as being able to handle 450 lbs/ft of torque rather than the newer ones at 400 lbs/ft.)
I seem to remember someguy building a "little stouter" motor for his Yellow '87?
What color is the shift pattern on the ****? That should narrow down the year. Sorry I can't tell what color it is because I am totally color blind :( . I think they changed the color in 91?
No, I mean 98. He literally is selling it as a "6-speed out of my wrecked 1998 corvette." It says 1998 in three places on the ad.
Hmm, even though he's got 1998 in three places, I wonder if he could have transposed "1989" three times? Wasn't the ZF used for the first time in '89s? And that was the L98, which would make sense. The shift pattern looks right, too.
