Default Up-to-Date Info on Spicer U-Joint Part Numbers

Fellow Vetters:

Several posts here have referenced Spicer U-Joints with out-of-date part numbers, so I thought a little update might be in order. There are two versions of the same U-Joint available from Spicer for the C4, and both will work with aluminium half-shafts. Both are also greaseless, meaning no Zerk fittings, and therefore, a supposedly stronger part. So, what's the difference? Okay, the cheaper--and more common--is part number 5-1350X; the more expensive--and less well known--is part number 5-3615X, which has an anti-galvanic coating on the four end caps. It's this coating that accounts for the part number difference. The coating is desirable if you're having a problem with the U-joint end caps oxidizing ("galvinizing" or "freezing") in the axle yolks. The end result is oft-times damaging a yolk while trying to pound out a worn U-joint. FYI, Denny's Driveshafts sells a package of four1350Xs for $69.50 (part #5-1350X-PKG1), which is about the best price I've found if you need a complete set.

Agreed with all points above. FWIW, Denny's also has a great price on the 5-3615X: $22.95ea.

I don't know of a pre-sorted combo, but you could certainly all six pieces at one time. That would go over $99, and that qualifies for free shipping from them. At the moment, it looks like they are out of stock in the coated 5-3613X driveshaft joints. It says "more coming soon," so let's hope that's true!

My clunk noise seems to be coming from the back right corner. I figure if i am replacing 1, im in it for all 6. So if you fellas could post a link, ima get these bad boys comin.
Got my Plastic Fantastic back from the tint shop today. It looks fantastic!!!!!!
Shes scheduled for all new sound system in a week. But this clunking and poping noise has got to go. I also noticed it doing it when the car is turning, kinda like CV joints do on 4x4 trucks.

Opem your browser and search for Denny's Driveshafts. You can order the U-joints from them on-line. Be sure to pick the part number that includes all four of your half-shaft joints in one box. It's a good deal.

If doing the u-joints, I'd check into doing the Teflon washers at the same time. GM doesn't carry them any more but IIRC Corvette Center now covers replacements.
While you have the axels out, do it all and be done with it IMO.
