Will be doing a cam swap shortly, and am considering the AFR Hydra-Rev kit to squeeze a couple hundred more RPM, and to keep the lifters from lifting off the lobe.
I'm looking for some feedback from anyone running these, and would also like to know if they can be installed on an L98 without removing the heads.
I used to run a rev kit on my 383. It's a great addition. You will get much better high rpm power from using it. You can even go more aggressive on the cam with smaller valve springs.
You have to have the heads on to install it in the first place, just the intake has to be removed, which is good because you should siameese the lower intake passages anyway if you want high rpm power. The combined effect should let your L98 with a stock cam pull hard to 5700-6000 RPM with no problems.
Thanks for that, BBA. I searched the forum for old threads, and found one on the hydra-rev kit. The consensus is that it doesn't hurt, and many users really like it. Looks like I'll order one on Monday.
I use the AFR kit myself on my 383. I haven't had any problems with it! The only thing bad I've heard is that the aluminum kits could/possibly produce metal flakes due to galing by the spring moving around.
I've heard that someone makes a steel kit that is said not to have this problem.
