Without draining my savings account. Does anybody have a recommondation on what headers will fit a 90/6spd. I dont need the Y pipe and all into one stuff that is offered that I am finding. I just want a old fashion header that fits. With or without smog tubes. I would really like one that does not hang really low under the car. My car has been lowered. May have to go with shorties of some sort.
i run 1 5/8 headman headers that were only $109 from summit, i welded a bung into the left collector for the o2 sensor, and a bung into the #8 header tube for the EGR, which i ended up plugging anyways, they fit perfect and don't hang down too far

An additional vote for the TPIS headers as previously suggested. They're not cheap, but do have all of the smog and O2 connections and are very well made. I've had mine on the 89 for 2 years now and they've been awesome.
Hooker 2149's have all the smog connections and can be had for $495 ceramic coated from summit. If you have the money for the tpis ones you could get these and save some dollers without compromising on performance :D
How many people run those heddman headers, they sound like a bargin what dia are they and has anyone had any issues with them ?
Hooker Supercomps. The shorties are not worth the all the BS of a header change. It IS a major PITA. The SC's won't scrape if the car is lowered. Mine is slammed front and rear for road course use. If you're hitting the headers, you're scraping something a LOT more expensive also! If you do the headers, by all means do two things...1) buy the best gaskets you can find. (Cometic comes to mind) 2) get the 1" long ARP header bolts WITH THE SMALL HEX HEAD! It makes tighening those little things immensely easier. Plus, you wont have to literally hammer dings into your new ceramic coated headers to fit a wrench or socket on them. Voice of experience and MANY hours of header R&R. (And it wasn't rest and relaxation!)
Edit...BTW, you get what you pay for with the Headman's. The flanges are thinner, and if you buy them coated, they are not much, if any cheaper than the SC's that include all the smog tubes.
The best results will come from full length ceramic coated headers, but they won't be cheap.
You can expect about 15hp gain over a mandrel-bent front Y and ported stock shorty headers.
The TPIS headers are a pretty good fit with some moving of fuel lines.
I'd fully agree. They're pricy like the LPE's...but I think the TPIS fit a little better(LPE's have a little trouble getting at number 8 plug from the top).
Re: Headers for a 1990. Any idea's. (atotalnincompoop)
Can you tell me more about the install of those headmans ie fuel line contact spark plug removal floor clearence, ground clearence etc.
Just to give you an opinion, i ran headman headers on a 440 cuda for many years with no fitment or leak issues at all i was very happy with them.
I took that same engine out of that cuda and put it in my 74 duster. The headman headers would not fit that chassis so i went for hooker super comps and they touched everywhere. i had to trim the shock towers and the floor on both sides to get them to fit and then the tyres would touch them on full lock if you went over a bump.
So although i agree the hookers are way better quality and offer more performance, don't knock the headmans too much because all manufactures have fitment problems with some of there products at some time :yesnod:
