My 1987 automatic shifts very slow between gears when im not stomping on it. When I stomp on it it shifts quickly. Is this normal? Feels smooth but seems old it take a a few seconds to shift.
Shifting slow or fast is a matter of interpretation. This sounds pretty normal as a normal shift is smoother and a brisk acceleration will yield a quicker shift.
But for the record, it doesn't feel bad, just not something I'm used to. I'm sure it's ok but I had to ask since my tranny won't go into first gear with the shifter so I'm looking at all options. First works but I just can't select it and have it stay in first. Shifts into second every time.
If youre manually shifting it make sure the boot isnt hanging it up from dropping down. Definitely do the TV cable adjustment. If its off it can shorten the life. It shouldnt lag seconds in betweeen shifting.
