running temp. for a 89 corvette??

Default running temp. for a 89 corvette??

hello a friend of mine bought a 89 coupe last week ,and when he is driving around 40mph his temp is around 220 to 230 degrees is it supose to running that high,I have a 84 and the temp at that speed will be around 190 ,and here is a pick that i took it is on the passenger side of the motor a black wire came loose from some type of a gadget

,what is this for thanks guys Bill

Although it CAN be that high (cooling fans don't come on until ~230) it shouldn't be that high. Fans don't run over ~25 mph anyway and at 40 there should be more than enough airflow to keep it "down against the stat".

Tell your friend to remove his radiator, clean out all the debris in front of it, and flush the cooling system.

The wire is for the EGR sensor to determine if the EGR is working. Reconnent the wire otherwise he may get a check engine light.

As mentioned by Tom, clean in between the condenser and radiator for debris do a true 50/50 mix on collant.

My 89 ran pretty consistently at 210-215 with a 195 stat in 100 degree Texas heat.
